Lace Palidrome Cable Scarf - 2011-10-04

One of the two Xmas gift scarves I'm knitting this year. This one for my brother's wife.

The quirk of this scarf is that it is fully reversible - the cables and lace are the same on both sides. This is achieved through the clever use of 1x1rib.

I'm intending to knit this with at least two balls BUT having to knit it double to get the texture right.

I'm also using a two-needle cable method which is not as difficult as I thought it would be.

Basically, it involves using the point of the right-hand needle to pick-up the stitches that will be knitted first in the cable, slipping all the stitches for the cable off the left hand needle while holding the other stitches tightly between fingers, then feed the non-needled stitches back on to the left hand needle, pick up the stitches off the right hand needle and then knit across to complete the cable. This sounds complicated but I actually find it easier than using a cable needle. This scarf uses a c8b (4x4 left over right) so it is not just for tiny cables.
