In search of freshness

Sunday - 27 January 2013

I slept in a bit this morning as I had a scratchy throat and was hoping it would disappear. I can't afford to get sick right now.

Mom and I have been wanting to find a new decent place to get fresh fruit and vegetables as we currently very less than impressed with the quality at Pick n Pay Tableview. They were good but now are sadly lacking. Raspberries that are rotten before the next day when the best before date was 3 days away, and vegetables that just tasted like water. Not the quality we needed.

Keep Calm and Knit On!

Sunday - 20 January 2013

Another day of The X-Files, couch bonding and cat entertaining. This time mixed up with some knitting. I have a three friends currently preggers and due in July. Two so far are having girls, one is still hoping for a boy. Such begins my first round of knitting for babies. I just hope I get things finished in time for the debuts!

Stock issues, stock non-issues and yarn stock

Saturday - 19 January 2013

Not much happened today. Mom and I went to Makro to buy cat food for the fussy furry hoard. We're battling to find decent boxes of their normal favourite, Friskies jellys, as most shops appear to be running low on stock. Is the supplier having issues? TamTams pretty much refuses most of the other brands of food so I hope we find some soon.

Project Completed: My varigated scarf

I finally knitted something for myself. A scarf.

Bones and lace

Tuesday - 2 October 2012

08h30 - I'm up, achy and still tired but going for the bone scan today and then a few days of relative peace. Me telling Dr M yesterday that we weren't going to be seeing her again, has caused a wrinkle with my Discovery benefits. (Mix up with the oncology benefits.) This too will be smoothed out with time.

09h30 - Just I'm about to rush out, a package arrives for me. It's a box from YuppieChef. @AniB has sent me a gift of cupcake decorating gear as a early birthday present and a get well soon gift. It really lifted my spirits. I have awesome friends!

Project completed: Red mohair lace wrap

My mom's close friend Liz came to visit. We hadn't seen her in ages as she has been on treatment for leukaemia. I had a stash of bright red mohair from my brother's wedding in 2010 and she loved the colour.

She got to see it at two thirds done before she left and it was posted to her last week. She is very much looking forward to being wrapped up in its squishy softness.

On my needles (June 2012)

On my needles

I seem to have a bit of a scarf obsession right now. A lace one too! Three different scarf projects on the go, at least another 2 buzzing in my head but at least there is also a set of ruffled wristlets planned to go with the scarf I'm actually knitting for myself.

Project Completed: Lacy Bed-jacket

Bed jacket knitted out of cotton for my Gran's 90th birthday. The panels were machine knitted with the lace edging hand knitted on afterwards. The front features a small lace panel on each side.

@AniB's ruffled "Abby" cuffs

Made for my dear friend @AniB in black chunky double knit and cherry red double knit on DPNs. This set don't have beeds around the edge as the wool is thick enough for a firm edge without them.

Trivia: Abby wears a set of these in NCIS season 8 episode 10 “False Witness” sent to her by @bonniejacobs.

Lace Palidrome Cable Scarf - 2011-10-04

One of the two Xmas gift scarves I'm knitting this year. This one for my brother's wife.

The quirk of this scarf is that it is fully reversible - the cables and lace are the same on both sides. This is achieved through the clever use of 1x1rib.

I'm intending to knit this with at least two balls BUT having to knit it double to get the texture right.

I'm also using a two-needle cable method which is not as difficult as I thought it would be.
