Project Update 2011-09-30

My KAL hoodie kinda stalled (again) but I'm now back on track and nearly finished.

After finishing some other minor projects, I continued to tackle the band. 208 stitches in total around the front (up the left, round the hood and back down the right) on circular needles (simply for the number of stitches) in double (k2p2) rib for 4 inches is not to be scoffed at.

My KAL hoodie kinda stalled but I am now back on track again. Both sleaves are finished, the pieces are sewn together and I have started knitting the hood.

The size is still a bit off and I suspect a bit small but I'll wait until it has been washed until I decide if I am keeping it or sending it to my gran for use as a bed jacket (she'll love it.)

Project Update 2011-03-22

It's been a while and I have slowed down a little due to other things going on but I have made progress. I have now completed 4 of the 5 main pieces for the hoodie: 1 back, 2 fronts and a sleeve. I am also about halfway through the other sleeve.

Left front now finished. I was a bit "fancy" and did a proper knitted in pocket so as to have less seaming later. This entails picking up stitches at the bottom of the narrow strip knitted up as the facing (read: outside) of the pocket and when the two strips are the same length knitting the held stitches back in with the currently active ones. This means I only have to seam the open edge which I might be able to skip when doing the pick up for the band.

Project Update 2011-02-20

I started this piece about 2 weeks back using the yarn I had found and the needles that had recommended but even though I swatched, it was coming out waay too soft and baggy. So I frogged it and started again. This time holding the gorgeous soft wool with a 4 ply that just disappears into the colours of the variegated yarn.

Lionbrand KAL 2011 - Saturday Morning Hoodie

Looking for a bigger project to move beyond mitts, gauntlets, scarves and hats, I stumbled upon the Lionbrand end-of-winter KnitALong project.

Dubbed "The Saturday Morning Hoodie", it is a comfortable cardigan with pockets and a hood. It knits up in 5 pieces which are seamed before the band and hood are knitted on via picked up stitches.
